I’m bound to a demon.

For my entire life, I avoided magic at all costs. Now, I’m responsible for a demon who wields magic more powerful than the toughest mage or sorcerer.

Demons are evil.

That’s what my textbooks say. That’s what I see. He’s ruthless, he’s temperamental, he’s cold. But he protects me without fail. I wonder if he’s hiding a heart behind his hostility.

My demon is a monster.

Whether he’s heartless or not, my contract with him is illegal and beyond dangerous. Together, we must find a way to return him to his own world before anyone discovers our secret. If that wasn’t bad enough, I’ve come to realize something else:

My demon isn’t the only monster I should be worried about.

From the author of The Guild Codex: Spellbound comes a new series that will plunge an unprepared young woman into the darkest magic of the mythic world.

Slaying Demons for the feeble is the second book in the Guild Codex Demonized series. I’ve been wanting to read this sequel since I’ve finished the first book. With each installment this series is becoming more addictive. Robin and Zylas are pretty fun characters.  They’re my favorite Annette Marie couple and I can never get enough of them.

The story continues from where it was left off in the first book. After barely escaping from their enemies, Robin and Zylas takes shelter in the Crow & Hammer Guild but she needs to keep her illegal contract with Zylas a secret. While searching for ways to send Zylas back to his world, Robin had to endure his temperament. Robin believed that all demons are evil but something in Zylas makes her wonder about everything she knew about them. He protects her with ferocity enough to kill anyone which makes Robin worried but he isn’t the only demon she needs to fear. She’s still looking for her mother’s lost Grimoire which is highly soughted by their enemy who won’t stop until they get their hands on it.

Robin is a meek and innocent heroine that kicked some ass in this book. She’s still looking for her uncle and they encounter freaking Vampires which is unexpected. Zylas was still Zylas. His cookie fetish was adorable. He was unfamiliar with human world and his rash decisions and brutal killings makes Robin angry with him. He doesn’t know anything about personal space and I loved the way he speaks to Robin in his demonic language. Despite their differences, they still try to work out as a team. I really loved the banters between them, but sadly they still haven’t developed any romantic feelings yet. So I’m really looking forward to know how their relationship progresses further in the next book.  Robin’s cousin Amalia was a nice addition to the plot. Zylas spares her life because it’ll hurt Robin’s feelings. They all work together to find  the whereabouts of the missing Grimoire. And finally we have Zora. I’m still upset with what happened at the end.

The plot was engaging throughout filled with non-stop action, humor and adventure. We meet new set of characters and also Tori from Spellbound series. It looks like both the series are going to be overlapped from the next book. I haven’t read it yet so I really need to get to that series next before continuing this one. The pacing was fast and the writing was great. There are few scenes that seemed dragged but I didn’t mind it much. The book was written in Robin’s POV. The world was well built. It was fascinating and addictive. There are so many supernatural beings in this UF world like vampires, witches, sorcerers, demons etc.

Overall, it was a good sequel and I really liked it! The book concluded with a cliffhanger and sadly I can’t jump quickly into the next book because it contains some major spoilers for the spellbound series which I haven’t read yet.

Recommend it?

If you’re looking for a fun filled and action packed YA Urban Fantasy then this series is just for you.

[4/5 Stars]

Yay for sequels that live up to the first book! It’s too bad it’s interconnected to another series, though. That would be frustrating. Great review!
