RELEASE DATE: September 03rd 2019
AUTHOR: Jen Deluca
GENRE: Adult, Contemporary, Romance.
PUBLISHER: Berkley Publishing
SUMMARY:All’s faire in love and war for two sworn enemies who indulge in a harmless flirtation in a laugh-out-loud rom-com from debut author, Jen DeLuca.
Emily knew there would be strings attached when she relocated to the small town of Willow Creek, Maryland, for the summer to help her sister recover from an accident, but who could anticipate getting roped into volunteering for the local Renaissance Faire alongside her teenaged niece? Or that the irritating and inscrutable schoolteacher in charge of the volunteers would be so annoying that she finds it impossible to stop thinking about him?
The faire is Simon’s family legacy and from the start he makes clear he doesn’t have time for Emily’s lighthearted approach to life, her oddball Shakespeare conspiracy theories, or her endless suggestions for new acts to shake things up. Yet on the faire grounds he becomes a different person, flirting freely with Emily when she’s in her revealing wench’s costume. But is this attraction real, or just part of the characters they’re portraying?
This summer was only ever supposed to be a pit stop on the way to somewhere else for Emily, but soon she can’t seem to shake the fantasy of establishing something more with Simon, or a permanent home of her own in Willow Cree
Well Met is Jen Deluca’s debut standalone novel filled with romance, comedy, drama, and emotions. I had lots of fun reading this book. It seriously didn’t feel like a debut novel at all. The main characters were pretty fun and well developed. I loved the slow burn romance between them. If you’re looking for a good hate to love romance novel then you must give this a shot. It was so good. The whole Renaissance Faire setting was amazing.
After a recent heartbreak, Emily relocates to her sister’s small town to help her recover from her accident. She likes her teenaged niece who wants to join the local Renaissance Faire but she needs a guardian. So Emily reluctantly volunteers herself as a tavern wench in the faire and then she meets the faire’s organizer Simon who’s not happy with her presence. The faire is his family’s legacy and he don’t want Emily to ruin it. On the faire’s grounds he becomes a total different person who doesn’t mind flirting freely with her, but after the faire is over he becomes his original irritating self who treats her like shit. Emily can’t determine who’s the real guy and she wants to know whether their attraction was real or an act.
Emily is a strong and relatable character who’s gone through a bad relationship. She likes Shakespeare so expect some Shakespearean references in this book. After a bad break up, Emily wants to restart her life. I really loved Emily’s character. Even after going through a painful break-up, she decided to move forward and restart her life. I also admired her relationship with her sister and her niece. It was kinda adorable. Simon is your typical broody guy who doesn’t like change and he treated Emily like a dirt in the beginning but he isn’t really that awful. The romance between Emily and Simon was well done. There was lots of hate vibes between them and they loved to push each others buttons. I honestly enjoyed their clashes and banters. They’ve a great chemistry especially when they played their characters. I loved how they slowly got closer to each other with each day. It was totally swoonworthy. The secondary characters were also pretty nice. I liked Emily’s sister April, her teenage niece Caitlyn, Stacey, the handsome hunk named Mitch, and also Christine aka Chris. They all made this book even more fun to read.
The plot was very much entertaining and fun. I’m glad that it also focused on other aspects like family relationships. I liked the Renaissance Faire aspect. It was the 0ne of the best parts in this book. People who’re fan of Shakespeare will definitely devour this book. I’ve never been to a Renaissance faire, but after reading this book, I really want to visit one. The story moved in a good pace. There was never a dull moment. For a debut, the author’s writing was great. The whole book was written in Emily’s first person POV. I mostly prefer dual POV’s in my romance books, but I still found this very much addicting. The whole small town setting was pretty good. I adore these type of settings.
Overall, I absolutely loved this book! I loved the characters, the swoon worthy romance, the humor, and the setting. The ending was pretty sweet and very well done. After this amazing debut, I will definitely be looking for more from this author.
