Monthly Wrap-Up | September [2019]

Hey Everyone! Welcome back to my wrap up post! Book Of The Month

GODS OF JADE AND SHADOW BY SILVIA MORENO GARCIA

I absolutely loved this book! It has great characters, wonderful setting, and an engaging storyline. Even if you’re not familiar with the Mayan Mythology and Mexican folklore, you’re still going to enjoy this book. It’s a standalone read and I highly recommend it, if you’re into adult fantasy filled with adventure and magic.

BLURB: The Mayan God of Death sends a young woman on a harrowing, life-changing journey in this dark fairy tale inspired by Mexican folklore, for readers of The Song of Achilles and Uprooted.

Here we shall begin to tell a story: a tale of a throne lost, of monsters and magic. A tale of gods and of the shadow realm. But this, our story, it begins in our world, in the land of mortals.

It begins with a woman. For this story, it is her story. It begins with her.

The Jazz Age is in full swing, but Casiopea Tun is too busy cleaning the floors of her wealthy grandfather’s house to listen to any fast tunes. Nevertheless, she dreams of a life far from her dusty, small town in southern Mexico. A life she can call her own.

Yet this new life seems as distant as the stars, until the day she finds a curious wooden box in her grandfather’s room. She opens it–and accidentally frees the spirit of the Mayan God of Death, who requests her help in recovering his throne from his treacherous brother. Failure will mean Casiopea’s demise, but success could make her dreams come true.

In the company of the strangely alluring god and armed with her wits, Casiopea begins an adventure that will take her on a cross-country odyssey, from the jungles of Yucatán to the bright lights of Mexico City–and deep into the darkness of the Mayan underworld.

Mixing the excitement of the Roaring Twenties with Prehispanic mythology, Gods of Jade and Shadow is a vivid, wildly imaginative historical fantasy.

Thank you! October has slowed down for me, but it’s mostly because we have multiple things going on where I can’t really read at all. I’ll be happy to finish 10 though. I’m on number 5, but one was a graphic novel.

You’re ahead of me lol! Ours won’t be till probably the middle of next week. My hard drive died and my brother, who’s in IT, has been working on it this last week when he’s had a free moment….I didn’t back up my stuff doh and some of it is corrupted so it’s taking way longer then it should. I need to get caught up on your reviews today💗, I’m sure you’ll have me adding books to my tbr!

Oh, that’s really bad, Jen! I would totally freak out if it happens with me. I also don’t back up my stuff even though I know I should 🙈 I hope not too much data was corrupted.

Thank you! He got 33% off and the rest was ruined ugh. So not great BUT at least I didn’t lose everything. Lesson learned, I’m setting a reminder on the 1st of every month to just back up everything on my computer to an external hard drive so this doesn’t happen again ack.

I’ve heard lots of positive things about Gods of Jade and Shadow. I’m so glad you loved it so much Raven. The First Girl Child is another intriguing one. The cover is so dark but I love the sound of the premise. ❤️❤️❤️ Happy reading!!
