First of All, I’m not liking the cover change of this series. The old cover of Pestilence had the enchanting vibes which was very much missing in the new ones. I wish they came up with something similar to the older one, but not the shirtless dudes. The first one was okay but this one is a definite no for me. Compared to the author’s other book covers, this was average. Well coming to the book, I really liked it but it wasn’t as amazing as the first book. Pestilence is still my favorite horseman in this series. War is a blood thirsty savage unlike Pestilence he enjoys making chaos. Please read trigger warnings before jumping into this book.

The story of War takes place in the Eastern Mediterranean. War travels with his entourage of warriors and followers to bring chaos and war everywhere he goes. People who didn’t joined him were killed brutally with no hesitance. When war arrives in Miriam Elmahdy’s home town, she’ll do anything to survive and she’s ready to fight back. When her path finally crosses with him, instead of killing her war claims that she’s his wife. He takes her back to his camp as a captive and Miriam tries to oppose him at every chance she gets. War tries to win her over with his other side who’s very loving and gentle, but Miriam  wouldn’t surrender to a murderer who’ll be responsible for humanity’s fall. With each day, it becomes harder to resist his charm. In the end, Miriam had to make a choice that’ll change the fate of humanity.

I enjoyed both the main characters in the book. Miriam was a strong, brave, and stubborn woman who’ll not give up easily without a fight. Her attraction to the war was a bit cringy, but overall I liked her character. She likes making weapons and she’s pretty good at archery. War on the other hand was bloody ruthless. Some of his actions were totally unforgivable. I honestly hated him at the beginning. It really took some time for me to warm up to him. The romance was a slow burn. Miriam hates War, but at the same time she was attracted to him. War can’t deny his nature and he wants Miriam to surrender to him and help him destroy humanity. They clash with each other. Despite their attraction, neither of them is ready to give up. They have a very dangerous cat and mouse relationship.

The plot was engaging but it’s somewhat similar to the first book. While I was reading this book, some of the scenes reminded me of Pestilence.  Nonetheless, it was still an enjoyable ride for me. The story moved in a steady pace. It was neither slow nor fast. The twists were pretty good even though some of them were quite predictable. The ending seemed a bit rushed but it was a satisfying conclusion. The author’s writing was addicting, as always. The book was written in Miriam’s POV. The setting was great. Laura has built a perfect atmosphere filled with chaos, violence, and death.

Overall, I enjoyed this book! Despite issues, I think it was a good sequel to the first one and now I can’t wait for Famine. I’m already dying to read his story!

Honestly, I think this series is not for everyone. It’s for the people who likes paranormal romance with morally grey heroes, and strong and stubborn heroines.
