Mia and Jake have known each other their whole lives. They’ve endured summer vacations, Sunday brunches, even dentist visits together. Their mothers, who are best friends, are convinced that Mia and Jake would be the perfect couple, even though they can’t stand to be in the same room together.

After Mia’s mom turns away yet another cute boy, Mia and Jake decide they’ve had enough. Together, they hatch a plan to get their moms off their backs. Permanently. All they have to do is pretend to date and then stage the worst breakup of all time—and then they’ll be free.

It’s the perfect plan – except that it turns out maybe Mia and Jake don’t hate each other as much as they once thought…

MY REV (Copy)

I loved Jenn P. Nyugen’s debut novel The Way To Game The Walk Of Shame and when I’ve heard that she’s coming up with another book with fake dating trope, I was really excited to read it. Fake It Till you break it was a fun filled hate to love romance between two childhood frenemies. I really enjoyed this book especially the characters, but honestly my favorite was still her debut novel which was so good.

Mia and Jake have known each other since they were little kids. Their mothers are best friends and dreams of seeing them together as a couple. They try many schemes to set them up together, but they always fail because unknown to their moms they can’t stand each other. Mia never had a boyfriend because her mom keeps scaring them way. To get them off their backs permanently, Jake and Mia decide to fake dating for a week and then stage a worst break up, but their plan backfires when they start to fall for each other.

Mia was pretty likable and fun character! She loves K-dramas and loves gushing about them. She dreams about being on the stage but lacks confidence. Jake on the other hand was nerd-ishly cute, sweet, and caring. He adores his mother who adopted him and his brother after their parents had died. After his older brother abandoned him and her mother, he was the only one to look after her.  Both of the main characters were enjoyable and the side characters are a nice addition. I liked Mia and Jake’s mothers! They’re hilarious!!! It was fun watching them trying to set them up together in every occasion. Also loved Jake’s friends Rose and Greg who’re also siblings. I enjoyed the friendship between them. And finally, I liked Finn’s character. He was cute and charming. He genuinely likes Mia and I really felt bad for him at the end.

The plot was cliched and predictable, but at the same time it was fun and entertaining. It’s one of those books that’ll lift up your mood and make you smile. I found the story and the characters pretty cute, they felt very realistic. Together they’re adorable but sometimes it was annoying how they try to deny each others feelings. The pacing was good. The writing was great and loved the dual first person POVs.

Overall, it was a fun read filled with drama, romance, friendship, and lots of fluff. The characters were pretty fun and enjoyable. Loved the cute ending. This will make a perfect beach read for summer.

So many fake boyfriend books are cliched and predictable, yet I love them every time 😂. I’m so glad you enjoyed this book too! I can’t wait to read her debut since you enjoyed it even more than this book.

Yay!! I am so happy that you enjoyed this one, too! I agree that the plot was a bit cliché, but it didn’t bother too much either. I can’t wait to try some of her other books now. 🙂
