I loved this sequel to the story! I’ve been wanting to read this book since I had finished the first one. You can also check out my review for the first book Alight at here. At first, I was afraid that it won’t meet my expectations but I’m glad that it turned out to be an exciting sequel. Just like the first book, it was exciting, thrilling and action packed but my favorite is still the first book. I loved the plot, the action and I also enjoyed meeting all the characters once again.  There’s only one more book left in the trilogy and I’m very eager to read it.

Dragon Shifter Ember has finally got her sister Cora back from the League’s stronghold without getting herself killed but Cora is in a magical coma and the only thing that can awake her is moonbeam, a rare magical item which seems to be lost for a long time and it’s the most coveted item for all the supernaturals.  In order to track down the moonbeam, Ember once again needs the help of her former enemy Astor even though she’s not happy with the idea. During their search for Moonbeam, the deaths of the shifters rises and all the supernaturals are accusing Ember and her friends. They later find out that Malkin, the leader of the League is still alive and he is responsible for the recent deaths and he’s been weaving a grand plan to eradicate all the shifters. To save the shifter race from extinction, Ember and her friends needs to stop Malkin before it’s too late.

Ember is the main protagonist and also  my favorite character in this series. I’m glad to see her back in action once again. She has finally gained some control on her shifting ability which always leaves her unconscious and I enjoyed her turning into a dragon because she shifted only a few times in the first book. I always admired her love for her little sister and how she’ll  go to any lengths to save her. I loved Astor! From the start of this book, I’ve been waiting for his appearance. The relationship between Astor and Ember got pretty complicated after the end of first book. After the betrayal from Astor, Ember is not ready to trust him again. Though she tries hard to deny her attraction towards him, her dragon still remembers their hot kiss and eventually, Ember finally gives into her attraction after another hot kiss. It’s too bad there’s not much romance in this book because I loved their relationship. I enjoyed every time they meet and how they riled each other up. I’m so glad they’re finally together. As for the secondary characters, Ember’s shifter friends Becks and Will are amazing, as always and we have a new guy in the group named Kit. He’s a faerie that Ember rescues from the league stronghold and he seems to possess some amazing powers. Giselle, the ex-hunter like Astor is not a friendly person and she seems to harbor many secrets. I don’t like her but I don’t hate her either.

I liked the plot which is exciting and engaging! The story moved in a fast pace with plenty of action. There isn’t any dull moment in this book. We’re finally get to meet the powerful mages that every supernaturals seems to be afraid of. I liked the twists even though some of them are predictable and the ending is simply superb. The writing is good and the story is told from Ember’s POV[first-person]. I loved Emma’s Supernatural world filled with magic and intrigue. There are so many paranormal creatures in this world like Gargoyles, Witches, Mages, Fae and many more.  The book finally concludes with a minor cliffhanger which left me wanting for more.

Overall, it was a great read! I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and I can’t wait to check out the finale of this trilogy. I hope it releases soon!

It’s hard to find a good NA fantasy book but this series seems like a great one. A strong female protagonist is another huge plus. I’m so glad you enjoyed this book. Great review.

I haven’t heard of this series before and it sounds like it is one that I might enjoy. Although I don’t read much NA, I think that the fact that this is a fast-paced fantasy is enough to lure me in. Thanks for the lovely review! 🙂

Oh I remember your review about the first book! I’m glad the sequel is just as good ^^
I have to make time to read this series because… Dragons! And a little romance never harmed anybody either 😉 (especially the slow burning kind!)
    Great review, Raven ❤
