Between Here and the Horizon By Callie Hart [Review]

RELEASE DATE:  October 18, 2016
AUTHOR: Callie Hart
GENRE:  Adult, Contemporary, Romance.
SUMMARY: Ophelia Lang needs money, and she needs it bad. Her parent’s restaurant is going under, and ever since she lost her job teaching third grade elementary, scraping enough cash together to pay the bills has proven almost impossible. Her parents are on the brink of losing their home. The vultures are circling overhead. So when Ophelia is offered an interview for a well-paid private tutoring gig in New York, how can she possibly say no?

Ronan Fletcher is far from the overweight, balding businessman Ophelia expected him to be. He’s young, handsome, and wealthy beyond all reason. He’s also perhaps the coldest, rudest person she’s ever met, and has a mean streak in him a mile and a half wide. A hundred grand is a lot of money, however, and if tolerating his frosty temperament, his erratic mood swings and whatever else he throws at her means she’ll get paid, then that is what Ophelia will do.

Her new boss is keeping secrets, though. Awful, terrible secrets.

The ghosts of Ronan Fletcher’s past are about to turn Ophelia’s future upside down, and she can’t even see it coming.

“You think you know me. You think you want to know me. But trust me, Miss Lang. Pursuing me will be the worst mistake you ever make. I’m broken beyond repair…...and I take great pleasure in breaking everyone else around me.”

Okay…. this was pretty interesting read and I loved the way it was portrayed. The story started as any normal typical contemporary read would but when the unpredictable twist happened after a few chapters, I was completely shocked. After the twist, I was totally hooked to the plot. The main characters are an interesting couple that I really liked knowing. I’m not familiar with Callie Hart’s books but when I read the blurb of this book, it pretty much sounded like a hate to love relationship trope that I always love to read so I knew I had to read this book. I’m glad that it didn’t turn out to be a disappointing read instead it was totally a refreshing contemporary read. If you would like to read this book then I’d suggest you to go in blind.

I really liked Ophelia. She is a relatable and strong character who is sweet, compassionate, stubborn and independent. I loved her relationship with her new boss’s kids and I’m glad that she never left them. For avoiding spoilers I’m not going to reveal much about the hero of the story but I’ll definitely say that he’s a flawed and broken character. When Ophelia and our hero meets physical attraction takes place but unfortunately they hate each other’s attitudes. Our hero is a broken soul but also Class A jerk and rude towards Ophelia at the beginning. As the story progresses, we can pretty much understand his behavior after knowing the hell he had gone through.  I enjoyed the great chemistry between them. Though there was a insta-attraction, it was definitely a slow burn romance. As for the supporting characters, I loved the kids Connor and Amie  who played a role in bringing these two together.

The plot was simply amazing! It majorly deals with family, mystery, suspense, betrayal, second chance, healing and love. Though some bits are predictable,  the mystery of the plot has always kept me on edge and there are some parts that really surprised me.  The pacing is good except for the ending which I felt rushed and I liked the writing style of the author.

Overall, it was very refreshing  and I loved it! It’s really a captivating read filled with mystery,  drama, and romance. I’m glad it wasn’t like any other typical contemporary romance out there that only deals with love and sex.

Recommend it?
Absolutely, Yes!
