1. Don’t call your hot boss the antichrist to his face.
2. Don’t stare at hot boss’s, um, package or his full sleeve of tattoos. (No. Really. Stop!)
3. Don’t get on the malicious first assistant’s bad side.
4. Don’t forget to memorize the 300-page employee manual.
5. If you value your cashmere, steer clear of boss’s dog.
6. Boss’s dimples are lust-inducing. Do. Not. Give. In.
7. “The elevator ate your clothes” is not a valid excuse for showing up to important meetings half dressed.
8. Don’t break seven of the rules within the first week of employment if you, ya know, are in dire need of money to support your sick mom.
9. Whatever you do, don’t fall for the boss. See rule eight about sick mom.
10. Never forget the rules.
This book was so much fun to read. The premise intrigued me when I first saw this book and I’m glad that it didn’t disappoint me. The story was hilarious, sweet and romantic. I’m very choosy when it comes to office romances and this one has lots of humor, angst and steamy romance that you don’t want to miss. Lainey is such an hilarious character that I can’t help liking her. This is the first story that I’ve read by Jennifer Blackwood, and I really enjoyed it.
Lainey Taylor got a job as a second assistant in a Star Media Company run by a young handsome CEO Brogan Starr. Before getting started, she must need to read the company’s 700 rules that must be followed to survive in the company for long. Lainey feels some of the rules are quite ridiculous to follow but she really needs the job to pay the medical bills of her sick mom who is fighting cancer. Lainey hasn’t seen the face of her boss and mistakenly calls him anti-christ on his face. She can’t believe that the young handsome guy with tattoo’s is actually her boss. Brogan Starr is hot guy with attractive looks especially with his lust inducing dimples and tattoos but it’s too bad he was her boss and she can’t jeopardize her job. Brogan gets intrigued by his new second assistant when he meets her but he can’t break his own rules and when they finally give into each other’s attraction, he is afraid it might affect his company because he has set the rules for a reason.
I really liked Lainey, in this story she was really a fun and quirky character who somehow always ends up in awkward and hysterical situations that made me laugh out loud. I also liked her witty talk and inner dialogues. Brogan is definitely a swoon worthy character but he’s also flawed character who has his own issues. I really enjoyed the hot and cold relationship between Lainey and Brogan. They really have a great chemistry and the email conversations between them seemed so cute. As for the romance, there’s no sex scenes in this book but there’s lots of hot makeout scenes to enjoy. It has nice supporting characters like Lainey’s mom and her best friend Zoey and not to forget Bruce, Brogan’s farty slobbering dog. I loved Bruce and I quite enjoyed Lainey’s relationship with him which was so adorable and damn cute.
The plot is a bit predictable but there are some few twists in it that you won’t see coming. The pacing is quite good and there isn’t any dull moment in this book. Loved the writing style of the author, it was simply superb. The whole story is written in Lainey’s POV and although I mostly prefer alternative pov in contemporary books, I didn’t minded it in this cause I liked seeing everything from Lainey’s perspective. She is a perfect protagonist who has brought so much fun to this book.
Overall, it was an entertaining read! It was really a great NA contemporary read filled with perfect drama, romance and humor. I highly recommend it to everyone especially to those who are new to New-Adult genre.
