MY REV (Copy)

Holy moly, this book was absolutely freaking amazing!!! I’m sucker for basically any book having a female assassin. When I first read the blurb, I was very intrigued and my instinct told me that I’m gonna love this book and I’m so glad that I was right. This book totally blew me away and the main character Aerietta Elony is everything I had expected from a kickass female protagonist. Honestly, I loved everything in the book like the plot, the characters, setting and the writing. It has all the potential to make a hit series and I immensely enjoyed reading each and every part of it. I can’t believe it’s a debut novel from the author Rose Reid. I think it’s a fantastic debut and I’ll definitely look forward to more books from this author.

In the kingdom of Lydovier, Seventeen year old Aerietta Elony is the top assassin in Cannon(order of assassins) and also the daughter of king Cress. Aerietta was born with a jezdah tattoo on the back of her shoulder that identifies the children of elements who are destined to bring pain, misery and destruction to the kingdom. The Children of elements are also known as “Afterlighters” . Creatures like Nymphs, fairies, warlocks, vampire are all Afterlighters but the children of elements are the only special one’s who looks like human. To make sure no one finds out about it, her father sends her to the leader of the cannon named quay so that she could learn all the ways of cannon and become an assassin. After so many years, now she has become a deadly assassin who earned the title queen of crimson for her ruthlessness. When a neighboring kingdom Evrallon attacks Lydovier, Aerietta gets captured by the Evrallon’s swordsman due to a betrayal from her companions. The Evrallon king makes a deal with Aerietta that she has to capture her traitor companion who has escaped in exchange for her freedom. Aerietta accepts the deal because she doesn’t want her whole life being chased by the evrallons and she would love to pay the one who betrayed her. Only a few people knew about her identity as princess cress and she must prevent from anyone finding about it especially the swordsman who totally despises her otherwise she’s as good as dead. During the journey, Aerietta learns more about her destiny and also finds there’s more to the swordsman who always seems cold and emotionless.

I liked all the characters in the book. I loved Aerietta! She is totally kickass and awesome! She is perfect female protagonist who is quiet fiesty,  strong, brave and determined. She is really a badass girl who has unearthly fighting skills and never backs down without a fight. Lyom Livingstone is another main character in the plot who I love him but I hate him at the same time. He may look tall, dark, mysterious and alluring but he always have this aloof and cold personality that makes him distant from others and he is very loyal to his kingdom. Dominik Giovani, also an assassin in Cannon is a captivating character who has a certain charm in him that makes girls swoon over him but he wasn’t impressive enough for me to ship him with Aerietta. There isn’t much romance in this book but you’ll feel something going on between Aerietta and Lyom. The relationship between Aerietta and Lyom was a bit complicated and yep there is a hot kiss but I’m still not sure about Lyom’s feelings yet. There isn’t any triangle yet but there is a possibility of it in the next book. As for the supporting characters, I liked Jamas and Prince Finn. Jamas is the only guy in the Evrallon squad who was always good towards Aerietta. Prince Finn is an interesting character and I’m very curious to know more about him who brought a twist at the end of the story.

The  plot was overwhelming, exciting, thrilling and unpredictable! It was fast paced plot with equal amount of action, plot twists, and mystery that it doesn’t feel dragged anywhere. The actions were well plotted, so intricate that anyone can easily envision them. For a debut author, the writing is quiet good and descriptive. The book is written in Arietta’s POV[first person] and I really enjoyed exploring everything through her mind. There isn’t much world building because it was mostly focused on the characters and the story. Nonetheless, it was fantastic and I’m dying to know what’s gonna happen next.

Overall, it was brilliant and fantastic! I was really going to give this book a four stars due to the lack in world building but it really does have a gripping plot and great characters that made me overlook it.

Crown Of Crimson is an amazing new YA fantasy debut of Rose Reid and I highly recommend it to the readers who loves reading books having kickass female protagonists and assassins. I would also recommend it to the throne of glass fans out there and even if you aren’t TOG’s fan, just read it. Trust me, you won’t regret it.
