Ghetto By M.L. Sparrow [Review]

RELEASE DATE: September 15, 2015
AUTHOR:
M.L. Sparrow
GENRE:
Young-Adult, Sci-Fi, Dystopia, Romance
SUMMARY:
My name’s Sunny Grace Beaumont. Branded SGB/2/6895/03.12.93. Only child, self-taught computer geek and cancer survivor. Oh, and did I mention my dad’s the President? As you can imagine that’s sometimes a little problematic, especially when I want to sneak out. But it never got me into quite as much trouble as the night I ventured into the Ghetto – don’t ask me why I was there in the first place… it was stupid. Everyone knows that the Ghetto is where hardened criminals are sent to live out the remainder of their lives. At first the men that kidnap me are just as I’d imagine, mean and thoughtless, but slowly I begin to have doubts.

I meet a guy. His name’s Sin, he has no Brand – a crime punishable by death – and he’s the rebel leader. I should hate him… but I don’t. Instead he opens my eyes to a whole other side of the Ghetto, where people are innocent of the crimes they’re accused of and helpless children suffer dreadful poverty. Is it possible that I’ve been lied to my entire life… that the governments been deceiving everyone? And how can I challenge the law my own dad is adamant to uphold?

MY REVIEW:

Ghetto is a book that would definitely surprise you. When I picked it out I didn’t expected to enjoy it as much as I did, it came as a total surprise to my expectations. It is a forbidden romantic love story between two star crossed lovers which is set in a post-apocalyptic world. Basically I love reading forbidden romance and I immensely enjoyed reading Ghetto. It is a stand-alone novel which is a good thing because you don’t have to wait ages for a sequel. After this amazing experience, I’d love to check out other books from this author.

Sunny Grace Beaumont is the president’s daughter who is always by his side with a smiling face when he gave speeches or attended functions. She was brought up in luxury and doesn’t know anything about the hard life in ghetto where criminals reside. Due to a circumstance, she sneaks inside the Ghetto using her technical skills but unfortunately she falls into a trap and gets kidnapped by the rebels where she meets Sin, the leader of the rebels. During her captivity, she learns that everything she has known about this place is all wrong. There are little children and innocent people who doesn’t deserve this dreadful life and what they go through to survive is very horrifying. After seeing the unfairness to the ghetto people, she genuinely wants to help them but to them she is untrustworthy and she needs to earn their trust especially from sin.

Sunny is a great female character who has got some great computer skills. She is intelligent, sassy, witty and absolutely sweet person. When it comes to children and old people she is a total softie and always comes to their aid. Sin is a strong protagonist who’s always protective towards his people. At the beginning, we see his cold personality towards Sunny but later on we get to see him loosen up and starts to have feelings for her. It’s really lovely to see how their love blossomed slowly which is actually the best thing in the book. The chemistry between them is electrifying and melting hot. They both are great for each other and I really enjoyed their relationship.

The plot is very well written and I really liked the concept. I liked all the characters especially the main characters who are well written and well developed. The world building in it is quite good and not too complex for our understanding. The writing style is also great, it is very descriptive and vivid. It’s also fast paced which is another thing that I liked about this book and you won’t get bored anywhere.

Overall, it is fantastic read and I loved it!  This book is a perfect mix of action, adventure, intrigue and romance. If you haven’t read this yet, then go get yourself a copy, you won’t regret it. It’s a perfect dystopian romance with perfect ending and I would highly recommend it to everyone.

This book sure sounds like it packs quite the punch, by the blurb alone there’s loads going on in the MC’s life! Looks to be a compelling read, and I’m glad you had fun with it, Raven!
